A Master’s Degree is usually pursued after a four-year Bachelor’s Degree. This program is usually a two-year study, but some may be able to complete the program in as little as one year. A Master’s Degree curriculum may require you to complete student teaching experiences. Some programs may require a thesis as a foundation for your studies. Thesis agendas are similar to doctoral programs in nature. Some of the courses will depend on your current teaching experience. Students may also take these program out of high school, and it may take six years to complete.

If you are pursuing a teaching career and have a Bachelor’s Degree, a Master of Early Childhood Education Degree can get you a better job. You also will have an easier time when you apply for employment.

Teachers with Master’s Degrees can qualify for administrative jobs, such as in day care centers. In this position, a teacher would oversee the day-to-day operations of a preschool or day care facility. Day care administrators often also perform human resources duties such as hiring and firing of staff. They may also be involved in marketing or public relations.

A Masters in Early Childhood Education will allow you to teach elementary school children. Although this degree may not be mandatory, it will allow you to have better positions and higher pay. This degree may also qualify one to teach early childhood development courses at secondary educational facilities, or to conduct research.

If you pursue a job as a day care administrator, you may expect to earn an average wage of about $40,000 per year. However, this will depend on where you work and your job experience. Some day care administrators earn as much as $77,000 annually. The median wage for elementary school teachers is about $51,000 a year. Teachers with higher degrees can expect to earn considerably more than those with Bachelor’s degrees. These wages can be as high as $80,000 in some locations, depending on job experience.

The outlook for positions that require a Masters in Early Childhood Education is very good for the coming decade. There will be average job growth in all areas of teaching and it should not be hard to find employment. There will also be many openings expected in day care administration due to retirements. When you advance your qualifications, you will have the opportunity to apply for many positions. The wide variety of positions available should make it easy to relocate to most areas of the country and still find suitable employment. Figures on job and income are taken from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics.
